Moushumi Chatterjee

The Hindi film actress who ruled the screen in the 70s. She has been paired with almost all the top stars of yesteryears. Married to Jayant Mukherjee at a young age, she pursued her career with the firm support of her family. She is singer Hemant kumar’s daughter in law. Blessed with 2 daughters- Payal & Meghana, she has struck the balance between films & her career.

Today she makes a rare appearance in films. In 1967, she made her debut in a Bengali film, Balika Badhu. In 1972, she appeared in ‘Anuraag’ with Vinod Mehra as a blind girl. She worked with him in 10 films. One of her most successful film was ‘Roti, Kapda aur Makaan’ which won her a filmfare also.

She has been awarded the lifetime achievement award for her contribution in the Bengali films. She has acted with Amitabh Bachchan in two films, Benaam & Manzil. Personally, I like the song in the rain,’Rimjhim gire sawan.. ‘ Hear it early in the morning & Kishore Da’s voice will follow you all day! The music scores are notable with their performances. But they were not a hit at the box office.

She has acted in the comedy, ‘Angoor’ with Sanjeev kumar along with a few more. She has been successful in the movies made by South directors with Jeetendra. ‘Maang Bharo Sajana’ & others. I believe before Jaya Prada or Shri devi she was the favourite.

She has been cast opposite Rishi Kapoor but their films were not hit.’Zehreela Insaan’ may not have made it to the box office, in spite of having the lovable Neetu Singh in it. The song picturised on Moushumi,’O Hansini, meri hansini kahan ud chali..’ is a gem!

Playing bhabhi to Sunny Deol in “Ghayal” opposite Raj Babber was seamless. She went on with the cameos or the character roles, striking gold on the way. Go over the scene in ‘Ghayal’ when she teases her husband who is bent on scolding Sunny for coming home late.

With her easy going persona she never felt like a film star. Her roles in ‘Swarg Narak’, ‘Dil aur Deewar’,’Ghar parivar’, ‘Hatyara’ & others. She has acted in more than hundred films & is still active. In ‘Piku ‘or ‘Zindagi Rocks’, ‘Aa Ab laut chalen’ has small but significant roles. She has worked in films like ‘Japanese wife’, did a Indo-Canadian production Bollywood/ Hollywood in 2003.

Her graph has been amazing just like the person she is!
