Countdown

A 1995 short film that sets you on edge with a man sitting in a room overlooking a street. He has a toy tied to a string which comes to him, across the table in a rhythm. He catches it as it reaches the edge of the table. From his window he can see a pram rolling into the pavement down on the street.

Directed by Marcel-Kyrill Gardelli. It lasts for only 8 minutes but has the entire drama to last & more. On the mantelpiece is a picture of a pretty lady holding a child, the same one in the pram! He sits on the chair & ties his feet , handcuff is on the handle of the chair which he locks himself.

As he gazes out of the blinds on the window he can see the pram. He is now desperate to free himself. With the handcuff hanging from his hand he reaches the street & saves the pram. He lifts the hood & takes a look at the baby. A man confronts him & smiles. It’s a miracle, wordlessly so many things are said.

Heinz Hoenig with his eyes conveys all the emotions effortlessly. As the toy now heads towards him it comes down & hangs in midair. The audience is made to think, reflect & draw conclusions.
