Record of Youth

One of the highest rating was achieved by this drama, second to only’ Stranger’season 2. It was because of the natural feel. I also liked that the end was not the end. It paves the way for the next season.

I fully appreciate the effort of the performers but the script is good. The writers should be applauded. Without being pompous and going for a magnum opus they brought to us a believable tale of the struggle of a wanna be star or actor. The background doesn’t help. His father does not like that for 7 years he is yet only a model who gets paid when he has work! Every parent likes to see his child settled.

Park Bo-Gum in one of his finest role does justice to the vulnerable, soft, struggler. He supports his grandfather & knows what the gen- X wants. Preparing his portfolio & getting modelling assignments starts off his dreams. Park’s life changes when he meets his first fan in person.

Park So Dam is a cutie. Her eyes are her asset. She is his die hard fan. But when it changes & she starts looking up to him as her friend. His presence changes her. She leaves her job to open her salon. She tries to break up when she realises that she cannot cope up with his stardom , gossips, scandals. She doesn’t want to be a burden.

Byeon Woo seok is his friend since school but his background helped him to be in the limelight. As both aspired to be actors the comparison was inevitable. As Park’s shows become popular, he senses a change in the attitude of people. He is also attracted towards So dam but she doesn’t encourage him. In a few instances when Bo gum is not there, he gets to help her.

Kwon so hyun is their third friend who is an ace photographer. He shared his middle class background with Bo gum. He is in love with Woo seok’s sister & knows it is going to be tough in the future. She is used to lavish lifestyle & he is yet to find success.

The minor roles or the supporting roles played are just there with being overbearing. I can easily write a blog each.

As the story progresses their patterns of behavior are true to what they think. It is less action & more about their reactions. So very relatable. The events progress by the story line & the writers give us the honest record. That is extremely endearing. The success lies in the simplicity. Along with the “Hospital Playlist’ eagerly waiting for season 2 of this drama.
