The Stolen Years

A 2013 Chinese film that starts with the protagonist waking up in a hospital bed. She has lost her memories for a short period. She is in her honeymoon state but in real life she has divorced her husband. Her memories when they were on their honeymoon are so nice, it feels so good. But they are only memories!

Because she cannot cope up alone in a unfamiliar house she goes to live with her husband. He now has a girlfriend & she starts feeling like a third wheel. She requests him to take her to places which they frequented, the crime spots! As she gradually regains her memory, she starts forgetting. They consult a doctor who asks her some simple questions as ‘what is the date today?’. He asks her to remember three words… Apple, paper & crown, but she can’t recollect when he asks her.

Bai Baihe has done an excellent job. We set on the journey with her & it is a roller coaster ride! Joseph Chang is equally good. He is in a position where he wishes to express but she is far away in her world!

She falls sick & on a ventilator. He is taking care of her day & night. His friend, Danny suggests him to let her go. He recalls his cancer-stricken father who had told him that he would not be able to share every great moment with him! This is the gist of the story then!

It leaves us very sad. I cried copiously & then felt better. It was long due.
