The perpetual question before the Silicon valley engineers when the visa expires and whether to renew or to return. It raises many questions & that I feel is the success of the short film. The story is never perfect, the choices people make is according to their situations. But it raises all the relevant questions.
Ali Fazal brings out the dilemma nicely. His flat mate had just returned back to India & now has a new flatmate who is extremely casual. He brings in another friend of his for the weekends, Gurmeet. Ali Fazal as Vivek Pandit has promised Omi Vaidya, his colleague, so he comes with his luggage. Just when we find them settling the two ladies from FBI come to see if illegal immigrants are residing & Gurmeet is missing! He has taken Omi’s bag with passport & the documents are not found!!
It also introduces Rajit Kapoor’s daughter Shweta as a photographer. She is a friend of Omi but romantically involved with Vivek. She wants to stay here in San Francisco but her father is for returning back to the roots!
The film also has a good end with Ali Fazal answering the questions of the interviewer who had earlier viewed the views of Rajit Kapoor. Ali Fazal also acknowledges his mentor & says he has a good life here. But we also know in real life not everyone is so fortunate. Such mentors are very few & making a fresh start is not something that happens easily!
