The Marathi film which put forth the agony of the students studying in the tenth standard but division ‘F’. After the elite classes of div. A,B….the students of div.F face different treatment from the students of the school & the teachers,parents & the society at large. Child Psychology teaches to regard all according to the merit but who does? The labelling is so wrong. When you say a particular child is say clever or dull you tend to scare him/her for life but we do this mistake over & over again.
With 30 years under the belt I can definitely point out to the wrong behaviour of the teachers. Not that I have have never been wrong but I have tried to be as just as possible. Given a situation tried to sort out at my level without involving the authorities,because they are bound by laws & more pressures.
Atul Kulkarni as their teacher tries hard to give them the chance they deserve. The students anger by breaking into the lab & cluttering it, is one incident that he handles by making them pay. Generally breaking things is so easy but to earn to pay for the damages has to be taught & that is tough!
The story moves with a pace that is interesting, revealing & provokating. It makes you think if the situation could have been handled better in any other way ? Atul Kulkarni’s teacher, Milind Gunaji in a small role, adds to the basic story.
It got many awards in the year 2003 but the best award was by the students who went to watch it & enjoyed it. As we were leaving the theatre in Pune I glanced upon the girls to guess if they had liked it & they turned to me & asked when they can watch it again! That was perhaps the best compliment both Sumitra Bhave & Sunil Sukthankar can have. I vividly remember the faces of the people around us enjoying the exchange.
Today writing about it gives me immense pleasure of revisiting again. And the effort continues….
