A 1977 Hindi film based on Sarat Chandra Chatterjee’s book is a delight to watch today. After so many years nothing has changed. The girl hardly has a voice when it comes to marriage. The open minded professor, her uncle played by Utpal Dutt is not much for getting her married. But her mother’s insistence makes him go to the house of Ghanshyam, played by Girish Karnad. He decides that this is the boy for her! The uncle knows that she has her mind set on the boy residing nearby, Narendra played by Vikram. Then & now when Girish Karnad makes his entry, Vikram falls short!

In 2000, “Dhadkan” had the same story. Shilpa Shetty has a boyfriend, Sunil Shetty but her father marries her to Akshay Kumar. Both the grooms in these stories are aware that they are not the first choice & wait patiently for her.

In ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ in 1999, the hero goes a step further. Ajay Devgan has his task cut out to locate Samir,Salman Khan & let Aishwarya be with him! Because he is her first love!! He does accomplish his task only by the time he lets them meet, she has developed feelings for him!

I simply love to see the fabric of relationships shift, change, modify to perfection! It is simply wonderful!!
