A Hindi film that I had been meaning to see for ages! On You tube I found everything but the entire feature film. I watched everything that had the poster so most of the Taapsee Pannu films along with a few others were on offer & I saw most of them!
Yet the fact remained that I had not actually seen the film. Then Today came the opportunity when the Zee showed it on TV. With a solid cast & a story to hang on for every word it is beautiful! Well Written by Mrunmayee Lagoo to perfect execution by Taapsee Pannu.
The eerie silence after the slap is deafening. Her change from the dutiful daughter-in -law to the aimless wanderer is phenomenal. The mindset of the men around is so typical, you could watch or see them anywhere around you! The women advicing to patch up & then a few who start thinking of their relationships in a new light! It refrains from being preachy & at the same time makes you think of your own thoughts & actions. As you sympathise or empathise you begin a war within you!
Have you ever had to face situations of this kind, how would you react? If you agree then have you put up with the unjust treatment? If you disagree, you put up a fight right? How did it go for you? What were the consequences?
What I really liked is that the end is left for you & neither is it teary nor a happy end just for the sake of it! Very rarely do we find a film with an honest portrayal like this. Kudos to the entire team & specially to Tapsee for giving us a wonderful experience!
Not actually the slap itself but the thought of hurting someone or finding a punching bag to vent away your frustrations is so wrong. The action is not justifiable at all but the thought is criminal! Maneka Gandhi works for all those animals who cannot talk & so have rights but what about all those women who suffer in silence for their house? The stigma of the broken house is more than the broken spirit, or body or both?
