After finishing the show, I feel the ‘Reply 1988’ is the best. Just started with the third in the series ‘Reply 1997’ but I have this strong feeling. It has Park Bo Gum & Go Kyung pyo, sure but the story is better. The families have such ties that have become extinct today. Each family has a story to tell. The characters are better developed.
In the final episodes, Chilbong has a car accident & his shoulder is injured. But he likes that Na Jung is being there to take care. She arrives immediately after finishing office & stays for the night. He comes across the medicines for common cold & knows for sure that she is thinking of Trash. He has overheard that he is sick.
He decides to let her go. So the next day checks out of the hospital & goes home. Na Jung comes to know & visits him, where he is trying to throw the balls. He wishes her luck.I found that his character was the strongest. His cousin had advised him to do so long ago but his stubborn nature would not listen.
When all are enjoying the world cup match he goes to buy fried chicken. He is coming down the stairs when he bumps into a girl, and falls. She is searching for her slippers & hoping around to find it. She suddenly asks him if he sells fried chicken. He just smiles.Now here is a perfect chance to explore further. Numerous fans have crowded for him, taking autographs, he is hid behind his cap in public but this girl is unaware of his charm!
There are also two spoilers. Once when Trash encounters the cast of ‘Reply 1997’ in the bus. All fall on him while fighting & he gets injured. Why a mature doctor get into a fight with teenagers I fail to understand. Then probably to introduce the cast? No, it was the other way round! ‘Reply 1994’ came after “Reply 1997” became a super hit. It was a wave on which the series sailed through!
In the jewelry shop he has a cast on his hand when he again meets the girl from the bus. She gives him a suggestion & he buys the couple rings. As he looks at her & tries to recognise her, she runs away.
When all the friends gather for the house warming, there is a noise from upstairs so NaJung & her father go upstairs where they meet the family, the girl Jung Eun-ji comes with a spoon & her husband, Seo In-guk comes with a baby in his arms. So I already know who is going to marry. No suspense there. But his father is the cousin of Na Jung & is the exact copy of her father. they go in for a drink. Na Jung says her husband will come. He comes & the girl recognises him.
The identity of Na Jung’s husband is kept a secret but at least twice we are sure who he is! If it was Chilbong ,the girl would have probably screamed But wouldn’t have reacted as she does!
But yes, the show manages to keep our interest intact. The story ends with the best closure for all of them!
