Just another actress

Divya Bharati was born in 1974 & had a roller coaster of a career in films. She starred in Hindi, Telugu & Tamil films. In the early 90s she was known for her versatility, beauty & her likeness to Sridevi. She had chubby cheeks & nose was different. The built, hait, make up made most of the stars then look similar.

In the 70s the heroine had an elaborate hairdo. It was discarded later. Then plaits became popular. With Dimple Kapadia loose hair became a style. If you watch movies made then Madhuri, Aayesha or Meenakshi had similar hair style.

After a string of flops she went south & was successful. She worked with Chiranjeevi & Mahesh Babu. In box office ratings she was next to Vijayashanti. She came back to star in ‘Vishwatma’ with Sunny Deol & “Shola aur Shabnam” with Govinda in 1992. It was a hit & she went on to work in ‘Deewana’ starring Rishi Kapoor & Shahrukh Khan. She bagged the award for the best female debut.

She secretly married Sajid Nadiadwala & also changed her name to “Sana”. But her marriage was kept a secret due to family problems & her film career. On 5 April 1993 she fell down from her balcony window of her fifth-floor apartment. A sudden end to a career which had just begun. Her servant ,Amruta the only witness also died within a month & then the case was closed by the police.

In 2011, Dev Anand made a film , “Chargesheet” loosely based on her story & the mystery around it.

Rambha then competed many of her incomplete projects. She acted as her body double. Few of the scenes in “Rang’ you can make out that the face is being hidden. Her last film was ‘Kshatriya’ with Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt & Raveena Tandon. The rest of her films were released posthumously.

She was replaced in ‘Mohra’,’Vijaypath”Dilwale’,’Kartavya’ &”Andolan’. In a very short span she had managed to make her name & was the most popular & paid star of her times.

‘Dil ka kya kasoor’ with Prithvi & ‘Dil aashna hai’ had good performances but didn’t ring the box office registers. But her sincere effort can be seen in both. Her performance in ‘Deewana’ was so mature. She stood with such confidence with Rishi Kapoor, it was amazing. In the later half she managed to be the perfect foil for the younger star, Shahrukh Khan. I saw ‘Rang’ also but the gaps can’t be filled. The shooting complete & the film was released but the very soul was lost!

She could have been the most bankable star but … her films are the only memories stored for us today!
