A 2003 Hindi film which introduced Chitrangada Singh along with KK Menon & Shiny Ahuja. The film after so many years remains relevant due to the subject. The period shown is the 70s yet we have not been able to do much for the villagers. They remain as ignorant,deprived & oblivious of the schemes for them. The political scenario remains the same with one in power attains more power at the cost of any thing which comes across. Men or money alike stand to lose in the battle of the upper hand.
The story of the three friends from college to a few years later. Vikram loves Geeta. She falls for Siddharth, who joins the naxal movement that changes their lives. Geeta gets married to an IAS officer, Ram Kapoor but still meets Siddharth. Vikram has not forgotten her. When Geeta leaves her husband, Vikram sets her up in a new house. But she leaves for Siddharth & starts working in the village.
She has a son but as the movement becomes rough, she leaves her son with her parents in London. As they are captured, Geeta is rescued by her now high official husband but she cannot but ask him for the whereabouts of Siddharth. She learns that the police have shot him.
Vikram taking care of her learns that Siddharth is alive. He travels to free him & meets with an accident. He is admitted to the same hospital where Siddharth is being treated. In the night, his friends carry siddharth along with the cot leaving behind Vikram. The policemen beat him to pulp. His brain injury makes him handicapped.
Siddharth leaves to study medicine. Geeta refuses to move with him. She continues to live in the village working as before. In the final scene, she is seen sitting beside Vikram who has his head on her shoulder. Both are looking at the still waters before them. On the rock he has written, ‘I live you, Geeta’
Shiney Ahuja bagged the best actor award for the film. He is the driver who takes her to the meeting places. He is steadfast in his feelings for her. When he discovers that the two are involved, he is speechless. But can’t forget her. She meets him in a party & doesn’t know what to say. He also meets her husband yet can’t help like her. He also discovers that she is meeting Siddharth & yet he is the one who helps her in need. Finally when he meets with the accident, he wanted to release Siddharth from the hospital & get him back.
In the end, he gets what he wants all his life, Geeta beside him! He has given an excellent performance that deserved the award!!(No pun intended!)
