Go kyung-pyo acted in the “Chicago Typewriter” after his hit show,’Reply 1988′ in 2017. But I saw his ghost appearance first. It left a deep impact. Yoo Ah-in is an accomplished actor no doubt but the ghost remains with you. In the typewriter for 80 years is no joke. All the events are around him, due to him & because of him!
In ‘Reply 1988’ although the story has five students & a female protagonist he is always pivotal. The story begins with Sung Deok falling for him. Giving him a candy everyday. Visiting her place frequently. Then it dawns that he is interested in her elder sister Bo-ra. Bo -ra is his senior, very studious meritorious student in the Seoul National university. Her boyfriend betrays her & when in need Sun Woo is there to help. Finally Bo-ra accepts his proposal.
He is disturbed when Bo-ra leaves to study for her bar exam & breaks off with him. His mother is a single mother & he is the dutiful son. He has a younger sister who dotes on him. He is again unwilling to accept Taek’s father to help out his mother but finally accepts. He also accepts the bond between his sister & the new father. Now Taek becomes his brother.
The job at the bathhouse taken up by his mother to gain extra money distresses him but he leaves it to her. He asks her to take care of herself. Because his mother so desires he goes to the medical school. Again he meets Bo-ra through a common friend & asks her to promise that she will not leave him. He plans to take their relationship to the next level.
They are caught by their mothers who do not approve of their relation. The common surname is one of the reasons. Finally after a wait of an year they get married. The protagonist is involved with Taek but they say nothing to add fuel to the fire. Sun Woo or Gu kyung -pyo had the entire floor to himself till the end.
In the ‘Chicago Typewriter’ he is the ghost who is not seen by all. He has feelings for the girl who is in front of him but she cannot see him. Yoo ah-in gets introduced to her due to him but he can help them but not himself. The other girl who can see him, also likes him But he cannot do anything about it. He used all that he had in the first show & had only to complete his unfinished task which sets him free.His presence in the room can’t be denied.
He talks, eats, lives with Yoo Ah-in but others wonder why two plates are placed on the table when only one person is eating. Finally Im Soo jung is able to see him before he disappears & he is delighted. So are we! Both his shows were wonderful to watch. Looking forward to a few more, which are sheer entertainment!
