The title was not very catchy & the story which was about widow marriage. Not an issue at 1982. It was age old & jaded made one think what RK Banner was up to. Are all the current issues done? Inspite of it the lead played by Rishi Kapoor & Padmini Kolhapure brought in performances that brought praise & awards.
I am thinking of it only for the song that remained with me for years. ‘Bhavre ne khilaya phool, phool ko le gaya rajkuvar…..’ the selflessness of the ‘bhavra’ was what I found interesting.
Geeta preaches to work without expecting awards or rewards, returns. Who does? Don’t we work to get money & have what we want? Just how can one be selfless doing work? Agreed one may be very passionate while working than the other but no returns? Ye bhaat thodi mushkil lag rahi hai…
Bhavre tu kahna na bhool, phool tujhe lag jaye meri umar… Now who does that? One thinks of his own life & longevity? Is there any sense in loving this much? “Bhavre ne khilaya phool, phool ko le gaya rajkuvar..Bhavre tu kehna na bhool, phool tera ho gaya idhar udhar…
Woh din ab na rahe, kya kya vipda padi phool par kaise phool kahe ……woh din ab na rahe, honi thi ya woh anhoni jane ise vidhata…
Her marriage ends with her husband’s untimely demise & she is very sad. Her childhood friend who has seen her being cherished, loved & cared for by all falls in disgrace. This change brings in sheer pain to all around. In a surprising move her mother played by Nanda prevents ‘Vapan’ & brings her child home.
The handling is superb. The Raj Kapoor touch evident all through. His songs & music were unique. This song haunts you even after you leave the theatre because of its lyrics. The thought that one who cares for never is the one who who gains. The baghban looks after the garden but the flowers are going to decorate homes other than his! The song with its phool & bhavra appears innocuous but is deep.
