The protagonist is ranked 999 in her school, this I liked very much . All can’t be toppers right? She is interested in one of the childhood friends residing in her lane. She meets him every day. She also gives him candies & is overjoyed to have such a decent friend as her boyfriend. But on one fateful day she discovers that he visited their house to have a look at her elder sister who is a topper & a student at the Seoul university. The reputed institute has only good students. She has been selected on merit & without any guidance.
Her world comes crashing down. Then her class friends reveal that the other boy definitely likes her. He had come to the eating joint just to be with them.She had called him if he could join them. He had also said that he had thought she was alone! The two girls give her a test.Tell him you are going on a blind date, if he says no, he definitely likes you. Any form of denial is ok.
The entire day passes by. She musters up her courage & goes to his house. he lives upstairs. In his room she asks the question. He immediately says ,no. Don’t go. Now she is happy. But at Teak’s house when these boys are talking , Teak admits that he likes her. Not as a friend but as a woman. Now I had waited for Bo gum to fall for her & yet when it actually happened I felt bad for the other boy! He first had to endure her infatuation over Sun Woo & then her heart break. Now when he was free to express himself he finds his neighbour a competitor that he concedes his defeat!
I have a thing for such silent admirers. I cannot but feel they are stronger than the main lead. To let go when the tables could have changed in your favour! The girl remains oblivious of the sacrifice. Here she suddenly finds him avoiding her & doesn’t know the reason. Yesterday’s summary was just too good. You can’t even hate those who have hurt you. You don’t love them but don’t hate them.
He goes to Taek’s room to give him a bowl of porridge. He thinks twice before knocking. Finds him asleep in the chair with the Go game board in front of him.Almost leaves the room to come back & settle him on the floor. He unrolls the blanket & puts the pillow. What he doesn’t do is carry him! Taek then goes & cruls up. He turns & covers him with the blanket. Small things done that matter & show you care. They have never talked of feelings as Taek is a man of few words & yet surprisingly he has expressed himself in front of his friends!
Park Bo gum In ‘Love in Moonlight’ & now in ‘Reply 1988′ are as far apart as can be. As the teen champion in “Reply 1988′ he is awkward, shy, immature & as a hero or the prince he is confidence incarnate in “love in Moonlight’. I simply loved the way he addresses his lady love. She is again one of my favourites among all the leading ladies in the K-world!
