Based on Ruskin Bond’s book, it is a story of a woman in search of love. It happens that when you go in search the thing alludes you. It may be nearby but not seen or achieved. Sometimes you get it when you least expect it! A rich girl who has everything but love1 Her parents have passed away & she is searching this love in the form of a husband! She doesn’t have a single good friend to confide in!
She is married to this handsome Major who loses one of his legs in war. In a party she dances with a Lieutenant & his jealousy comes out to the fore. A childless marriage turns into an obligation. It keeps spiraling down. In search of a maneater tiger, the major loses his footing & dies. Neil Nitin Mukesh playing the arrogant, handsome husband to the hilt. I find him in very few films & none the less he honestly does the job. He is praiseworthy in ‘New York’ with John Abraham & Katrina Kaif.
Then she meets Jamshed Rathore,John Abraham the singer who rises to fame with her money. Gets addicted to drugs & women. She tries to get rid of his addiction but he is long gone. The police suspect his death being an inside job, but she manages to charm the concerned officer & is then free!
In Kashmir she meets a poet. Irrfan is right with his long shervani & locks of curls. He is a sensitive soul with poetry in his veins. She changes her faith to Islam & becomes Sultana. Her nights become a nightmare with her sadist husband. Covering the bruises becomes difficult as days go by. With the help of her loyal servants she buries him in the snow.
The enamored Russian becomes her next husband. He is learning Hindi & says, ‘Mera Amar prem hai’. She learns that he has a family in Moscow, she is angry at the deception. He turns to be a spy too. She makes him climb down the well where her pet snakes are housed.
Her fifth husband is Annu Kapoor who is the inspector investigating her case. Now he is promoted & in Delhi. But he cannot forget her. They marry & she kills him with an overdose of Viagra on which he is dependent. The same year 2011, Annu Kapoor worked with her in her film, Aitraaz, the bold film where she showed her negative streak. She had Annu Kapoor killed because he was the lawyer who had the ability to bring her down in court. Priyanka Chopra was awarded with the best actress award for ‘7 Khoon Maaf’
Dejected she tries to kill herself but the timely help of Doctor Modhu, Nasiruddin Shah saves her. He wants to marry her for her inheritance & on his insistence she marries again. His cultivation of mushrooms & his soups are well known. He tries to kill her but her servant dies instead & she shoots her husband. She tries to kill herself again & sets the house on fire. Her maid dies saving her.
Arun, the stable hand who was sponsored by her becomes a doctor. He is now in the forensic lab & declares that the burnt body is Suzanne’s. He feels he is freeing himself from her debt at least partially. He learns she is in Pondicherry & goes there to meet her. She is to be inducted into being a nun the next day. Infatuated from childhood,having her picture in the worshiping place, witness to her downfall, finally Arun finds her becoming a nun. She accepts Jesus as her seventh & final husband. The honors done by Ruskin Bond himself! He is in the guest appearance.
‘Seven sins forgiven’ it was named such for the international release. It did not do well at the boxoffice,as was expected. But it was wonderful to catapult Priyanka to the ‘A’ liners. For a girl who did not have a filmy background & who debuted as a supporting actress it is huge! Kudos to her !!
