I was wondering as I started watching it, what was it that I wished to see in this show! I am a die hard fan of the historical shows but why this one ? Then I saw the cast & got my answer. Ji Chang Wook & Ha Ji Won ! The classic pairing ever. Ji Chang Wook the flavour of the new year & Han ji won from the ‘Secret Garden’ who has managed to stand out with Hyun Bin & also get the best couple award for her role then!
In this show she is the fighter dressed as a man to hide her identity. Her mother gets killed when they are caught & being taken to the Yuan territory. Her mother has asked her to stay alive & find her father. She is skilled in Archery, especially with the baby arrows. No wonder she looked so good in the ‘Secret Garden’ as the stunt woman for Hyun Bin to fall for her!
Ji Chang Wook is in the very first shot. He is marrying the empress KI! Then as the story progresses it moves to Goryeo & he reappears in the last scene in the second episode! I wondered if he was left behind somewhere or the story ends with him! But no, now the entire focus is on him! From his ‘Healer’ to ‘Suspicious Partner’ he is never this hesitant or scared ! He is hounded by memories of his father’s murder & the chase for his own head. The tale is all about how he survives all the attempts on his life.
Although the King knows he favours her( in Man’s dress of course!) he is hesitant & that probably is going to be the deciding factor! Ji Chang has already asked her to accompany him, when he goes home. He knows he is comfortable in the company & wishes she never leaves his side. Whether he knows her identity is not known yet.
It has an easy pace & not many surprises as the number of historical dramas seen are many now. It is also a rare blend of Chinese & Korean cultures co-existing.
