Kabir Singh

A film I had heard about for long but somehow did not feel that I should be watching it. Then when I watched it yesterday I was pleasantly surprised by the last half an hour! The violence & the bold scenes were putting me off. I am just averse to those. The film is good, really. But still they could have done away with the scenes which tend to become too pathetic.

Shahid Kapoor is the house surgeon who falls for a first year student, Kiara Advani. He is overbearing right from the start & then she also reciprocates his feelings. After he graduates & leaves for Mussoorie for his PG, they meet often & travel to & fro. When he meets her again to invite for his brother’s wedding, they are in their ‘private space’ when her father sees them & throws him out.

He tries to convince her father & confesses his love for her but to no use. From their things spiral down. When the daughter has such deep feelings as parents why couldn’t the parents sense them? When she has chosen him over all others why can she tell her parents? Why should the father find it when this boy visits them & he has to find her in his arms? The mothers have no say in the matter?

Shahid Kapoor has shown his feelings with the rage in his eyes. They have that crazy look that clearly shows how he has anger management issues. That is shown in details in the beginning. Actually graphic details are not needed,we can sense the situation ! He has a strong support group of his friends & his brother also. His drinking & drugs finally cause him to lose his licence.

Shahid Kapoor from his films like ‘Vivah’ & earlier when he looks so soft & delicate,a true romantic hero! His transition into a rugged & rough drug addict in ‘Udta Punjab’ & who can forget his performance in “Jab we met” a all through Kareena Kapoor movie, but he gives a creditable performance that goes unnoticed. He has tried on roles & stayed in the competition so well!

Kiara Advani was noticed for her role in ‘MS Dhoni: an untold story’ with Sushant singh Rajput. Her special appearance in “Kalank” with popular stars made her more visible. Her role in ‘Guilty’ as Nanki Dutta was another good one. The story revolves around her. With ‘Kabir Singh’ she managed to be in the public eye as a promising artist. ‘Good Newz’ another film with bankable stars like Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor & cast opposite Diljit Dosanjh. What I admired about her is she did not shy away from a protruding belly in “Kabir Singh” or in the “Good Newz”! Upcoming stars do not like to be seen with such prosthetics.

At the end of the movie you have this feel good feeling & that makes it a worth seeing. The length could have been reduced & a few unnecessary scenes deleted, but then the box office is not complaining!
