In the show’Queen for 7 days’ the father of Park Min Young is the veteran actor Jang Hyun sung. He is always the supporting cast but having a pivotal role. Here he knows that if his daughter marries into the royal family it will be in turmoil. He sends her to the country house away from the palace & yet when she venters into the city she meets the prince! The King & his brother, the grand prince fall for her.
In the ‘Secret affair’ he is married into riches. He keeps a low profile. He is aware of the colourful lifestyle of his wife, but doesn’t bother till problems prop up. He comes in strongly only when her father is arrested & the family needs the son-in-law.
In “Doctors” he is the pillar behind the lead pair of Kim Rae Won & Park Shin-hye. He is aware of the politics in the hospital & takes a brave stand when needed. He is a honest & caring doctor for the patients. He is bothered by the vested interests of the administrators. This role suited his personality & was awarded for the same. When we see a performance we may not be with the other competitors but the work in front of us if good enough we can confidently say,…and the award goes to…!
He has also written for the film,’Romance’ isn’t that amazing! He is credited for the idea of ‘Always’ another very good film. The blind girl falling for the retired boxer without making it a melodrama. It is tear jerking but ends in softly. There is no tragedy what such films normally inherit. The pain, separation is dealt with realistically without going overboard.
Once you see him on screen it is difficult to forget him. He has that kind of face. He maintains his niche without being overzealous or stealing the thunder. He is that quiet person following you but not being interfering. Takes a step only when needed.
