It begins with Ellen Langford. A rich heiress at an event falls on a christmas tree & creates headlines. Her father dispatches her to Snow falls to meet his life long friend, Zek. She is to travel by bus & has only hundred dollars with her. Her credit cards are also taken away. Thus the journey starts to taste the country side.
It is slow but such stories are meant to be so. It follows a set pattern. No surprises & yet feel good. The christmas is eagerly awaited by all. The sudden snow fall brings in hidden qualities. The charity event that she has been to so far, or events that she has organised till today are nothing when it comes to welcoming guests to share a room or do away with certain amenities.
Eliza Taylor in the lead sparkles. She also has the maximum screen time. Jake Lacy is laid back as he is supposed to be. He has very little to do yet he has made the most of the time available to him. Andie MacDowell as always shines. In the 1994 film , Four weddings & a funeral, with Hugh Grant she was his lead. Even then I always wondered why does he hesitate so much. If we can see she is good. The best he can come across why did he need so many events to come to the conclusion that we had long known! Here she manages a cafe & is Jake’s aunt. Eliza learns to bake there.
Michael Xavier as Eliza’s fiance is the arrogant city dweller that he is expected to be. Martin Roach as the sheriff. Neil Crone as her father.Anthony Sherwood as Uncle Zek has a late entry but the entire film is about meeting him.
Gently but firmly he teaches his daughter the value of money, people , relationships which wasn’t possible in New York. He makes her the chief executive when she passes the test successfully. Christmas brings in joy & unknown happiness that would last for a lifetime.
