A Rajesh Khanna & Mumtaz starrer that took me by surprise. I had been expecting good songs & a good story but the first action sequence has Rajesh Khanna fighting for “Roti”. He doesn’t let it fall on the ground!.He says people toil for it & it feeds us, so it is our duty to give it the respect it deserves. Paisa vasool.

He is a prisoner who escapes from jail & tries to start a new life. He works as a teacher & gets to know children & people around. He meets Mumtaz & wants to live for her, with her. We almost forget that he is wanted by the police who catch up with him eventually. The plot though simple is decorated by nice songs on the way. It makes it pleasing to the eyes & worth watching.

‘Yeh public hai yeh sab janti hai…by Kishore Da is an evergreen song.’Nach meri bulbul…, ‘Gore rang pe na itna …’Yaar hamari baat suno made it a major hit in the 70s.

A feel good film that made you sad when the police start chasing him. The fate of such criminals who show an inclination to change themselves can the society really give them a second chance?
