Jan-Feb were the months when the marriage was finalised. But how to go about it now? There was no way that the guests could gather in a city. Nor could it be postponed further. So tomorrow it is to take place in Bangalore. The names of the groom & the bride -to- be being Saurabh & Aishwarya Rai is another novelty.
For years settling in the city & getting set in the business required time . All the relatives are looking forward to it. An event in the family & over due has it’s own expectations. I remember when Aaji- Ajoba were there the events were planned for days, months were spend to consider how the celebration can take place with immense festivities & cutting down the costs. Today not the costs but the time is of essence.
They had a bungalow with open space which could be used for welcoming the guests. The temple premises in the month of may could be turned into a wedding hall. In the wedding it was a school. The ladies in the family helped the main cook who toiled for a week. The expectations were low & the guests accommodative. With changing trends the weddings have become lavish & people have forgotten to celebrate in the minimum resources.
Salary hikes, better opportunities, screen weddings have influenced the thinking in general. Initially it was the three -‘F’… Flat, Fiat & Fridge now these are basic & some more! Having a house of ownership, a car to ride & the amenities. There is no shortage for the ‘Wants’! A foreign trip yearly can be added.
What we are moving towards is the superficial wellbeing & not the natural path. The nature, the thoughts, the compatibility should be most important. The other things will follow. The wait is necessary. For realisation of the dreams, a time should be set & more. But then who has the time? The most expensive commodity!
Prayers go up, blessings come down. Let our prayers be with the new couple & may they make most of the opportunity!
