I am disappointed. The crescendo at 23-24 suddenly tapers to a lame end. If RADE was an enigmatic character why wasn’t it explored? By 27- 28 I had a feel that it can go to 30-32 easily but in the end the scenes kept repeating & the purity, beauty captured earlier was lost.
In the modern & in the joseon period she gets back her husband.But the look alike of the Lord, his entry is late. If he is helpful it should have been clear. If no connection then why is he following her & avoiding to meet in person? These things should have been clearly shown. The audience likes to see & not imagine a relationship if any. In the end when she goes to see, The siesta de Luna’ he knows she will be there or he has made it possible isn’t it proper to introduce himself ?
The two meeting when she is injured, instead of Saimdang, RADE should have been there to see if she is critically ill or needs help. Bringing back her husband was a total surprise. How he survives the fall ? Not known. Who pays the hospital bill? Not clear. Various scenarios can be imagined here.
The memorial of Saimdang Shin is a place as should have been. Her courage, clarity in times of dilemma,her foresight in predicting the future for women shows how great she was! She leaves the mountains when she could have judt stayed or run away. She thinks of her children first & still is able to continue her hobby.
Her enemy Min & his wife are taken care of very easily. Actually I missed them in the end. For people who have lead their lives on their terms the fall was predestined & yet left me uneasy. When she watches them painting the portrait together & thinks how beautiful they look together, I got my revenge. She then thinks what have I been doing for all these years, my heart went out for her. For once I thought she deserved a better life. All her life she had been competing with Saimdang in her mind & sometimes in her deeds. There was no time to live for herself!
When she gets injured & meets Saimdang. She advises Saimdang to think of getting the Lord out of the prison. The events have already taken place. Saimdang should have been telling her story of his escape by sea. First the small boat , then the vessel. From Goa, in India to Italy taking help of the missionary.Near death experience could have been explored better.
But yes it is a good show, with a few flaws. Happy viewing!
