I had abandoned the show for being too slow. But after 18th episode it becomes interesting, it is slow is a given but it has it’s moments. Through the next two episodes now the life now & the life she had then start becoming eerily alike. In the art gallery an original painting gets burnt in front of their eyes by Prof. Lee. She gets the news of her husband dying in a car accident.
Saimdang knows of her husband’s affair & the other woman being pregnant. Her friend is enraged but Saimdang shows such control that is simply amazing! All her paintings are here without her knowledge. Her husband admits that he always felt small & inferior when she was around. What does the other woman have? I am comfortable! You are like a teacher & I can be myself when I am with her. Saimdang’s life is in a flux with four children & a husband who is good for nothing.
The manner in which her life changed forever. Her father is killed & to protect her family she had to forget her love & get married to an unknown person. He does ask her, ‘Do you love me?’ She says she respects him for being her husband & her children’s father! Both have been through a lot & yet Saimdang remains at the top with her conviction, her hardwork, devotion & rising over any situation. When she shifts her residence, she finds her husband has already given it to a suitable buyer. He doesn’t think what his family will do now!
In the modern times her son is traumatised with the news of his father’s death so she goes to her father away from the crowd. She breaks down & tells her father that she had been having hollow dreams. But he assures her that this will help you to become stronger & fight for what is right!
Her paintings are all bought by Lee Gyum. He leaves a peony flower for her & asks her to go on painting for the blooms. Earlier when he visits with the crown prince he looks at the red color on the canvas & wonders what is bothering her. The distance they maintain & still know each other so well! I like people who have such a relationship but the meddling Min & his wife were getting on my nerves.
Prof. Min has burnt a fake instead of the real painting. I wondered about it because a real history teacher & a collector would never harm a valuable painting. Now it is getting interesting, it required so many episodes for the groundwork! One of the most expensive of the dramas set in the Joseon period. It has that authentic look!
I have wondered about the villains, always they have their way & also the pardon at the end. Why? Minister Min is killing people & scheming for more. His confinement & death if any Will not be enough for the wrongs done. Commit a crime & then say ‘Sorry’ I don’t think that is okay. For all the wrong doings the punishment is insufficient!
Looking forward to good things happening. Happy viewing!
