Anahat

From its title I wanted to know why it is anahat? That which is going on continuously. But what, why & how is it continuous? Why their is no stopping it? The story takes place in the era when the Kings & queens were there. The ruler decided the laws. So when after years of pining for a child the queen is sad. The king wants a heir so they decide an unusual way. They find a candidate for the queen to spend a night. It would continue till she conceives.

With the consent of her husband , the queen leaves the palace at a auspicious time & returns the next day. The pair Anant Nag & Sonali Bendre as the king & the queen look very elegant. Their parting is so real, the decision seems so cruel. But when she returns she is in a world of her own! The experience has taught her what she had been missing. Sonali Bendre at her best. There is only her leaving & then entering the palace but her body language is eloquent. No visuals are needed.

The film is inspired from Surendra Verma’s Hindi play,’Surya ki antim kiran se Surya ki pehli kiran tak’. Directed by Amol Palekar, it is short & worth watching.Deepti Naval is in the supporting role. Happy watching!
