Up in the air

It is based on Walter Kirn’s novel written in 2001. The film made in 2009 is about a man who has the job to terminate people. George Clooney(Ryan Bingham )with his cool manner makes it watchable. He is not bothered by the consequences & hands over a packet indifferently. He has mastered it into an art. There is this scene where he is seated in the aircraft & the flight attendant asks, ” Do you want cancer ?” He is like, “What?” She again asks,’Do you want cancer?’ & then,’Do you want can, sir?’ It was funny how we react while looking at it.

Just then his boss decides to make it by video conferencing & brings in a fresh candidate Natalie Keener. To know the ropes she travels with him everywhere.Clooney says , when you have to reach fast see that no old people are in front, no family with kids, go for Asians ,they are fast!Different cities in the US are covered. She is dumped by her boyfriend by texting her. She is devastated & seeks Ryan’s advice. Luckily Alex is also there. Alex is also a frequent flyer & has a casual relationship with Ryan. Both appear to be close yet their is no commitment.

On Natalie’s proding he takes Alex to his sister’s wedding. The bridegroom has cold feet on the day of the wedding which Ryan resolves & the wedding proceeds. Ryan has been giving lectures on his philosophy of life, ‘What’s in your backpack?’ To move on without excess baggage & to live free.

He suddenly misses Alex & decides to fly to Chicago. Alex opens her door, where children are running & her husband calls out, ‘Who’s it?’ Ryan is shocked. On his way back the chief pilot congratulates him for crossing ten million mile mark. He is just the 7th person & the youngest to do so.He transfers his flyer miles to his sister so they can have their honeymoon.

The final shot has Clooney looking up at the destination board with the luggage in his hand. His future is left for us to imagine. Happy watching!
