More than the title the length was more important. I could finish it before sleeping. Then when Jacqueline started threatening with a scalpel & a young girl pleading not to hurt her, I presumed it was a wrong choice. The story begins with her. She recently found out that she is pregnant & tells her husband, Manoj Bajpayee, a gynac.
Bodies of 6 young girls are found. They are unwed but pregnant. Along their bodies their foetuses are found in jars. the evidence points to surgical precision. Mohit Raina, inspector collects a hair brush & other articles as evidence. His efforts lands the Dr in lockup.But Jacqueline assumes that he is taking revenge by framing her husband. They had been in a relationship but due to her parents she has married a doctor.
Mr Rastogi, the criminal lawyer advises her to kill one more girl to prove that Dr Joy is not the killer. Jacqueline follows his advice & finds her neighbour Anushka Tiwari an ideal candidate. She has also taught her.( What., where is unclear.) With this new corpse the court releases Dr Joy. But Jacqueline has not killed her, she is there in the hospital tied to the table. Dr Joy pays a nocturnal visit to his clinic. Jacqueline notices his absence & follows.
The final scenes could have been better handled. After all the mystery had to be revealed. Initially one has to get used to Jacqueline’s voice with meaty roles she can improve in the future. Manoj Bajpayee looks the slippery fellow that he portrays. The inspector needed more footage. He is dashing in “Uri” in all his scenes with Vicky Kaushal. Here he fails to impress.The most important introduction is Zayn Marie, Aamir Khan’s niece. Her eyes are her asset. From the first frame what you notice is her eyes!
Shirish Kunder’s effort is worthwhile. Could have been better. With tighter story ‘One Day’ makes your day. Stalwarts like Anupam Kher lift it to greater heights. Watching the way their eyes move, their movements help us to move on. Not everything needs to be in the script!
