I had louded the idea that a man thought of easing & comforting his wife. For generations it is a well known fact that it pain is inherent. To lessen the discomfort & to think of bringing in a hygienic product that would benefit millions. But I was worried about how it would look on screen, but with R.Balki it was commendable. Barring a scene or two the story is depicted as it should be.

The word,’Pad’ not so easy to pronounce in public found acceptance all over. With Balki his choice of actors is much appreciated. Akshay Kumar had improved from film to film. His debut with his ‘Khiladi’ sequences hard to believe that he turned to social messaging in a good way. With his masala films he has kept his good work. Read somewhere that his wife & son are the motivators. None the less he is praiseworthy.

When he gets married to Radhika Apte he encounters menstruation in close vicinity. He watches his wife & vows to bring in change. The dirty cloth needs to be replaced but then a solution has to be designed. He starts manufacturing pads & trains many to do the same. Based on a true story it is an honest attempt.

Later when he gains recognition & goes abroad he is helped by Sonam Ahuja. She is another actor who knows her limits & excels at what she does.( a ‘Niraja’ is the proof of her sincere effort.) Toning down on their story was the best part. With laurels come temptation, but he is for his wife forever. ( In society we do come across who forget their spouses & find better ones on the way!)

It won the national award for film on other social issues.Indian film festival at Melbourne saw R Balki & Akshay Kumar win the award for best director & actor respectively. It did very well at the box office too.

Among the songs I specially like the beat & lyrics of ‘Aaj se teri..’ which shows their story evolving. ‘O teri kandhe ka jo til hai, tere seene mein jo dil hai…are romantic verses I felt & then suddenly..’teri bijli ka jo bill hai aaj se mera ho gaya…’ brings you to the harsh reality. Normally I don’t like such verses but found it apt to express his feelings. He is a simple soul & his verses needed to be simple. His love for his wife is extraordinary ! He empathises,sympathyses & finds a remedy!

A must see movie. Depiction of love extraordinary! Happy viewing!
