Love story

A 1981 Hindi film starring Kumar Gaurav & Vijayeta Pandit. It was the launching film for Kumar Gaurav by his father Rajendrakumar. All the songs were popular & a hit with good memories. Vidya Sinha,Danny Denzongpa, Amjad Khan, Aruna Irani & others completed the cast.

Opening scene has Rajendra Kumar scolding Kumar Gaurav. ‘Jyada smart banne ki koshish mat karo.’ To which he says,’Koshish? No koshish. Dad, I am smart!’ I watched the film intently & remember quite a lot. Rajendra Kumar loves Vidya Sinha but does not marry her. Danny marries her & has a daughter, Pinky(Vijeta ).Rajendra Kumar’s son is Bunty( Kumar Gaurav).

Bunty wants to become a pilot but his father apposes & Pinky’s father wants to marry her off, so she runs away from home. Both meet & are handcuffed by Amjad Khan who has the job to take them home. Many events later they fall in love but the parents disapprove so they run away together. Finally all ends well.

“Yeh ladki zarasi diwani lagti hai…”, “kya gazab karte ho ji.. ‘ by Asha Bhosle. “Yaad aa rahi hai, teri yaad..” by Amit Kumar got him the filmfare. Then ‘Dekho maine dekha hai ek sapna, phoolon ke shahar mein ho ghar apna..’has their dream of living together. Due to their ages it looks cute, for any other actors it would look childish.’Kaha hogi ladai, maine woh jagah nahi banai…’tells their story.

‘Kaisa tera pyar kaisa gussa hai tera..’by Amit Kumar ,Lata Mangeshkar is playfully handled. Most of the Hindi films are love stories & naming one as such was itself something new. The problem later was that both could not repeat the success. Till today the record remains intact. It was a huge hit.

‘Love story’ by Erich Segal is the story of the star crossed lovers. We actually feel very depressed as she dies. The theme has been repeated in so many films later but never fails to be a tear jerker.

To more positive films. Happy viewing!
