Dhadkan

‘Dil ne yeh kaha hai tumse..’ the musical journey begins with a special song. Like many others I loved to hear it everyday. The story begins with Anjali meeting Dev. When she comes home her father asks her to bring him home. After the meeting Dev leaves fuming as Anjali’s father has disapproved him. His poverty, manners just everything about him. Anjali decides to go with her father’s wish & marries Akshay Kumar ie Ram.

The events so happen that when Dev comes back Anjali is in love with her husband. She is pregnant & asks Dev to forget her. All the songs are nice. Each has the word,’Dhadkan’ in it. But it doesn’t appear artificial. The performances by Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty, Sunil Shetty were much appreciated. The supporting cast is also good. Especially Mahima Chaudhary who has a small role but shines through. Sunil Shetty’s mother, Sharmila Tagore is in 2-3 scenes.

‘Tum dil ki dhadkan, main rehte ho,rehte ho…’,’Na na karte pyar hai mein kar gayi…’, ‘Dulhe ka sehra…’ by Nusrat fateh ali picturised on Kader Khan is one of the highlights. The song that Mahima has,’Aksar is duniya mein…’ where all the characters are together in a party. Alka Yagnik won the best playback singer award for ‘Dil ne yeh kaha hai dil se…’ & Sunil Shetty for best villain.

In today’s times along with “dhai akshar pyar ke” the protagonist was considered weak because she could not convince her parents & remain firm for her love. With the father’s pressure Anjali who was so in love with Dev agrees to marry Ram. How can that be explained? Family does matter. So her work was cut out when she started going out with Dev. She knew he was poor & did not match her status.

If they have the courage to select their boyfriend why were they weak when the decision had to be made? Sunil Shetty’s mother dies due to the shock! He becomes a recluse. How he travels abroad & gets into riches is unknown. But his feelings remain the same but here all is changed in 3 years time. I agree things can even change overnight but she appears fickle & not what we imagine her to be.

It definitely gives us fodder for thought. Many times I sympathise with Dev more than Anjali. Now if Anjali’s father is rich he could have taken him under his wings & trained him. A businessman should have an eye for the talent inherent! What he achieved on his own, Anjali’s father could have been instrumental in bringing change. Rest of the story is fine. But her decision to abandon Dev rankles.

Formerly’ khandan ki ijjat’ & ‘badon ka lihaj’ I understand but when we say times have changed, does choice matter or not. Is it only a change that is overtly seen but actually people remained the same? Is it only dikhawa & nothing else?

Towards building honest relationships. Happy bonding!
