The short story that will remain with you for days. A lift man gets sick & sends his son on the duty. His son is preparing for his engineering exam,which he hasn’t cleared in four attempts. He is lazy & doesn’t want this work but has no choice. The events that follow change his perspective & he becomes responsible. I do not wish to relate the entire story here. It better be seen.
The main cast includes Moin Khan,Nyla masood,Sagar Kale, Neha Bam & others. The fresh faces make it a must see. Parents have an ambition that the child should study & make the most of life but what about the child? If there is no ambition, direction, the efforts may fall flat. It tackles with these issues without being preachy. It also ends within 2 hours. I feel we have lost the ability to sit & watch a film for 3 or more hours. Plus we have this option of moving about & doing our own thing. Who will go to the theaters I wonder!
“Lift kara de” was a rage when it was released. Adnan Sami became a household name. “Muzko bhi to lift kara de, thodi si to lift kara de… Meri arzi maan le Maula…” it had a catchy tune & words that made sense. In tune with the present it was much appreciated. He made the most of it & recorded songs with the likes of Rani Mukharjee & Diya Mirza. ‘Bheegi bheegi raaton me phir tum aao na…’, “Tera chehra”, one of the Pakistani singers to fall for India. His “Kabhi nahi” has Amitabh with him.
I remember there was a lift in ‘Gavkari’ office that I used when I dropped off my articles. Not all buildings had lift. It was a pleasure to go up & down the lift at Mama’s residence in Malabar Hill. Knowing that Shashi Kapoor lives in the same building gave goosebumps. What if I am in the lift & Shashi Kapoor decides to ride the lift at the same time!
I was also scared to close or open the doors because not being used to it there was every possibility of something going wrong. The completely closed ones are truly scary. Only the numbers let you know that you are moving! Getting to know the new gadgets does need time.
