Filhaal

After watching the promos for ‘Hu tu tu’ I could not see the film, which appeared promising. But I made it to “Filhaal” & knew she had the touch. Meghna Gulzar had arrived! She had assisted her father as a screen writer for ‘Hu tu tu’. The song, ‘Chhai chhap chhai, chhapa ke chchai’ was popular then. In “Filhaal” she has one of my favourite actresses, Sushmita Sen with another good actress, Tabu opposite Sanjay Suri & Palash Sen. Susmita got the Zee cine award for the best supporting actress.

Filhaal or momentary is about the two best friends. But they have a different viewpoint where marriage is concerned. In the opening sequences, a Koel is seen transferring her young ones into the nest of the crow, it sets the tone of the film.Sushmita is an ambitious lady & has refused her boyfriend’s proposal. Here, Tabu gets married to Sanjay suri & finds she can’t conceive because of an injury. The two friends have been shown fencing when Sushmita’s sword hurts Tabu & she has to be treated.

Sushmita Decides to be a surrogate mother to help out her friend from depression. But things start going wrong as Tabu does not like her husband spending more time with Sushmita. Palash also ends their relationship. When she gives birth, things get better as the pair decides to move far away with the child. Palash also comes back & proposes again. She accepts. End of the story.

Meghna had thought hard & long about it & the effort shows. It is a 2002 film, with ‘Raazi’ she has made people sit up & take notice. It is a film about patriotism & the struggle that follows. People involved are changed forever. Alia Bhatt as usual shines through it all. One of the actresses who has a long way to go & has the full potential to do it.

The latest song, Filhaal, has Akshay Kumar who has made the song memorable. ‘Kisi aur ka hu filhaal ke tera ho jau’ the lyrics are good & all the actors have chipped in well. A single tells it all.The parting, the rise today & the regret is all beautifully picturised. It haunts you all day.

Moving on to more permanent relationships. Happy bonding!
