After watching Ji hyun Jun in the popular show,”My love from the star” I longed to see her in another show. This suggestion I had been getting for ages so finally decided to go for it. But I found the series first in the Joseon period & realised that Ji hyun is not there.So again I had to search for her.
It is based on a true story told in a series of blogs made into a fictional novel. It was very successful in South Korea highest grosser then & appears in the top five of all times. It played a key role in the spread of the Korean wave. It has an American & Japanese remake.A sequel , My new sassy girl, a collaboration between Korea & China. Also Indian, Chinese & Nepali adaptation.
The film has 3 parts. First,second & overtime. All of them make us understand their relationship.The cast consists of Jun Ji-hyun & Cha Tae-hyun in the lead. She first meets him when she is drunk & standing on the station. He pulls her away to safety. They travel by the train & she vomits. He tries hard to clean up, when she calls him,”Honey” & people assume they are together.
He doesn’t want to be involved but she keeps on appearing. He is an engineering student, he is attending his class when she comes & sits on a chair next to him. She calls for a break & when the teacher enters in he calls him & asks to care for his girlfriend. Outside the class she tells him she has told the teacher that she is pregnant & that she is going to abort it.
They decide to break up & meet under a tree where they put their letters in a time capsule. She doesn’t come. But he writes down everything & gets it published. He completes her dream. One more year passes by & he misses her on the train, the doors close. On entering a restaurant he meets her with his Aunt. His mother has been pestering him to meet a girl his Aunty knows.The search is complete.
In the Joseon period that I am watching presently, she is sassy till the 8the episode only. Then she is rumoured to be in a love triangle, which is not true. Later a prince from Quig arrives to propose to her. The mystery of her missing mother is yet unsolved. The tree is significant because here she knows her mother is alive. The letter, the pile of stones is all the same. But many characters had made it a different story. She has a younger brother & a step mother. She is a princess here so that adds to the complications.Also her sassiness suits her position at times.
A normal story why people went gaga over it I wonder! When she did not make it I felt bad & wished that the story should not end here. Jun ji has been phenomenal. To hide her insecurities she is acting overboard. In a few scenes she is normal. Her life is not a smooth ride. As we go with the flow we realise many things. Worth watching!
