Rajshree productions were known to launch new faces. Badjatyas were a big name then. There films were simple ,straight forward & catered to the audience as they liked it. It was all about respect to the elders & taking care of the young ones. Refer to the dialogues between Reema Lagoo & Prem or Salman Khan in “Maine pyar kiya”. This one film brought in a super hit that no one imagined.
The two new faces were Rameshwari & Prem Kishan. They became stars overnight. The story was simple. His grand father wishes to see his grand daughter-in-law. Now Prem ( here Prem Kishan, the name being lucky has been used always!) is in a fix, because his to be wife Rita is out of town so he brings in Kammo. Rameshwari is a florist selling flowers on the street! ( Another ‘ti phulrani’)
The sick grandfather starts liking his grand daughter-in-law & recovers. Madan Puri in a rare loving role. The doctor is our very own Iftekar, in his unique style. The songs are too good.’Le toh aaye ho hame sapno ke gaun me…as she dreams.’Mangal bhavan’ a devotional song, what hits you hard is that it doesn’t appear fake. Rameshwari at her best. She has never looked better.
It has nine songs & yet they go with the flow. ‘Khushiyan hi khushiya ho daman mein jiske… add to the flavour. She knows that she is only the stand in but as she gets into her role she establishes a bond with every one in the household. Now what next? A party is organised & dadaji announces his marriage. From the end of the hall he shouts, “Dadaji” by the time he actually reaches Dadaji all the guests are directed towards the dining hall. I vividly remember the vacating people so his shouting as it is carries little weight as there is no audience!
Where we had imagined a shouting match it is handled so well. The capable actors made it a memorable experience. It was much later that big names like Zindagi na milegi dobara, Jaane tu ya jaane na, Kabhi alvida na kehna, Kuch kuch hota hai became a style. Again it was Rajashree! The elderly used their wisdom while bringing in their wayward grandson to heel.
Worth a watch anytime! Happy viewing!! Let me know.
