Jalte hain jiske liye, teri ankho ke diye dhond laya hun vahi geet mein tere liye ! it was unthinkable to woo a girl from a household where they want the other girl to marry him. He had his fate sealed with Shashikala, but had his eyes only for the girl who was in the background, Nutan.
Talat Mehmood has sung very few songs. I must say this is the best! Dard banke jo mere dil mein raha dhal na saka, jadu banke teri ankho mein ruka chal na saka aaj laya hun wohi geet mein tere liye. The softness in the verses is shown in their movements. Sunil Dutt had this quality of devoting himself to the role wholeheartedly. His fears,tears hence appear all too real.
Dil mein rakh lena ise hatho mein ye chhute na kahi, geet nazuk hai mera shishe se bhi tute na kahi.. gungunaunga yahi geet mein tere liye.there is no compulsion. The song is delicate, more than the glass, so handle it with care. The gentleness in their relation makes it more endearing. Nutan ,being an orphan & untouchable has been always treated harshly by the lady of the house. Imagine her state as she is confronted by care & love by a man.
Jab talak na ye tere ras ke bhare hoton se mile, uhi awara phirega ye teri zulfon ke tale, gaye jaunga yehi geet mein tere liye… he is holding the receiver & going on with the song & she is on the other end in tears. Many more telephone songs have been picturised, this is the best. The emotions of a Brahmin boy & a untouchable orphan were captured neatly in the film. It brought in a change in the mindset. Many girls were named “Sujata”. Just like “Madhumati” or “Anupama” when those films were famous.
