Sleep

In std ninth we were given topics to talk for say ten minutes. It was for the internal marks. I remember our class teacher Mrs Lata Kulkarni asking one of our classmates why he had not chosen ‘Sleep’ because it has the greatest potential. Today I am trying to recollect her points & adding a few of my own. It helped us to stand in front of our class & talk. One of my favorite pastimes.

Sleep is needed for each one of us. One third of our life we sleep. It is very essential. Ask it’s importance to those who cannot sleep. The luckiest ones are those that sleep within ten minutes of lying in their bed.The most common medicine sold are the sleeping pills. Yet we have to learn to sleep. Remember all those Bedtime stories & lullabies sung by mothers over the globe. ‘ lalla lalla lori doodh ki katori..’ or ‘ Neej mazya nandalala nandalala re…’

Sleep induces dreams. This dreamland is the easiest escape to the la la land. They satisfy all the wishes. If wishes were horses… A good night sleep is necessary to face the challenges of the new day. It is said ‘to sleep on a problem’ gives a better solution. Suppose we can’t avoid somebody or a situation the god gift ,Sleep helps to find the solution.

‘Nindiya rani’,’Zhapki’ or anything else it is given, gifted, bestowed upon you. Healing also takes place better if you sleep. It is a natural relaxant. Not everybody needs eight hours sleep, but a shut eye is a must. If we fall asleep while meditating, don’t feel guilty, It means the body needs it. As the oxygen demand increases, you yawn. It means sleep deprivation but it can also mean boredom. While doing ‘Shavasana’ also you may fall asleep it only indicates now is the right time to do it. After a afternoon nap of 14-15 minutes (Power nap) work done is better than stretching for hours together. With the body, the eyes also get rest & work better.

The verses & songs sing praises of sleep along the moon. “Mujhe neend na aaye…, “Chanda hai tu mera suraj hai tu…”, ‘Mera dilbar soo raha hai…’, ‘Tim tim karte taare yeh kehte hai saare…’

Not children but old people & lazy people like me require full eight hours sleep. I can eat less but no compromise with sleep. There may be one of my favourite actors on screen but sleep on time is must. I fully agree with an Official for Netflix saying that they don’t have the competition from Amazon but rather from sleep! People need to sleep more & better for the body to function better. Most of the diseases arrive due to deprivation of sleep. A good night’s sleep is the best medicine.

When body is rested well, the output is better. If working place has good facilities, people work better. So they sleep better, work better. The same goes for full stomach better ideas, good sleep better work.

Sleep well. Sweet dreams. Happy reading!
