The word ‘last’ gives an idea of what to expect & the child seen in few frames gives it away so no suspense there. The child has ‘Wilson’s disease & is in need of a liver. The police officer, her father searches for a donor & comes across a convict. He frees the convict brings him home. No surprise that the biological father is the convict who donates his liver & dies. the length could have been less.
A real tear jerker. In tha cast are Shin Hyun-joon, Heo joon ho, Cho su min, Park min ji & others. The child artist is excellent. How they make the children act so well is a perpetual question in my mind. The plot is tight, no unnecessary scenes & yet the length could have been less. The two leads are great.
Operations need money. Poor cannot fall sick. The money trail leads to some underworld activities or political connect . Here it is the season of elections & a cover up.It could have been a clear financial issue.Raising a child is not a child’s play & raising it alone is more difficult.
Many similar films are made & I have seen that the seasoned actors are doing it effortlessly. A Marathi movie , Anumati, where the important decision of switching off the ventilator is taken, Vikram Gokhale signs the paper when others are hesitating. His wife is lying on the hospital bed for days now. His friend Reema Lagoo is surprised. He responds, the one lying there is her body merely, my wife has been lively always, this is not her!
Such films make you rethink of the tubes that lengthen the life or the miseries? In film ‘Anand’ Rajesh Khanna always smiles his troubles away.’ Zindagi lambi nahi, badi honi chahiye, Babumoshai’…iconic lines, characters & memorable music made it spectacular in all respects.
Leaving you with the thought of impermanence. Happy thinking!
