I saw this show last year. I loved it.It is a 2004 rom com. I went through the cast today & was shocked, nobody looks as they are in the show. Moon geun is a school girl & looks just that.She is affectionately called ‘Nation’s little sister’. She began modelling at 10. Kim Rae won is also so young & dashing, you wouldn’t believe. Shin Se kyung, No I did not recognize her at all! They paired in the ‘Black Knight’ & it is another good show. How mature. His haircut is changed & so are his mannerisms.
The plot is simple. A first year highschool student is forced to marry her cousin,who is on the verge of graduation.It is the dying wish of the grandfather. The roving eye of the college student, her innocence & their struggle to keep it as a secret is a beautiful experience. When she looks at other girls drooling over him, how he maintains his distance & finally when they accept their relation in front of the entire school is a sweet journey.It is a Korean remake of ‘ My wife is 18’, a Hong kong film of 2002.
Both the leads bagged the best new actor awards. Also it was well received by the audience. There were occasions when the scenes could have been too much but the limit is maintained that makes it a worth watch.In 1976, ‘Balika Badhu’ a Hindi film had Sachin & Rajni Sharma in lead. She marries at a tender age & comes to realization only when he is away. ‘ Bade acche lagte hai..’ one of the songs is evergreen. Rajshri productions repeated the theme with ‘Abodh’ a 1984 film with Madhuri Dixit & Tapas Paul. After attending her friend’s wedding she accepts him.
In film ‘Uphaar” 1971 Jaya Bhaduri & Swaroop Dutt starrer, he leaves her with his mother & goes to Calcutta. Upon realization she cries why she was left behind. In film, ‘Sadma’ the lead pair of Kamal Haasan & Sridevi face a situation where her brain is that of a child. She is a grown up woman but his caring or emotions are always in the right place. Till her parents pick her up nothing upsetting happens.
I had watched a film ‘Anubhav’ with Shekhar Suman & Padmini Kolhapure. They get married but she has no idea. He goes to his friend, Richa Sharma where they are getting too cosy. Padmini is hiding to watch fun when she suddenly realizes that moment as her face changes, the entire film hinges on that expression. Disgusted she runs away & Shekhar goes after her.
Exploring the emotions, caring for someone, showing restraint, moving away, giving space, all are the necessary ingredients of a fulfilling relationship. In this show, My little bride, some viewers thought him to be a pervert. He is looking at girls. But I feel they wanted to emphasis the change in him as he marries. He takes his responsibility very seriously. I liked him from then so may be I am prejudiced a little.
Kim Rae won’s best pairing is with Park shin hye in ‘Doctors’. They are one of the best pairs on Korean drama. I loved everything about the show. Only had to close my eyes with the detailed operations they carried out. It is an excellent show. Happy viewing!
