A 2016 drama starring Lee Yo-won, Jung Hae in, Uee, Jin Goo & others is an engrossing one. It takes place in the corporate world where there is a constant tussle between money, power. It is a very well written drama. Each scene is perfect. I had been in search of it only for my favourite people, Uee & Jung hae in ! This is the third drama after I watched her in ‘Marriage Contract’ & ‘Husband Oh Jak du’ & Jung Hae in’s ‘Something in the rain’ & ‘ one spring night’. As ‘Tak’ he is help needed for each member in their firm ,the Gallery S.
Three friends participated in 1988 Olympic games together & their friendship turned sore soon after. Two of them have a son & a daughter each & also have a shared past but now want to fight it out. Ms Seo takes it on herself to groom one of her employees to be like her & try to seduce Park Gun -woo, the rich heir. Then changes the task to work with him. Se-jin plans to help her in her own way. Jin Goo as the ex of Ms. Seo is a guitarist & working in a eatery in Japan when they meet but has a new aim to develop his own business & avoid all misappropriation in the Moojin Group.
Her clothes, walk & posture exude confidence. When she is thinking she folds her arms & her expression changes, becomes impenetrable. For a change the end was heartening & she was not knocked down as so many had vowed. She leaves by appointing her successor, her mirror, her right hand, her very dear Ms Se-jin ( Uee doesn’t have a husband here & she is independent. After the beginning episodes her monetary condition improves & her Aunty & her sister have been taken care of.) Things around her so hectic there is no family time. Those who have a strong prejudice for Korean dramas being mushy, this is the one. There is no touching except an occasional handshake.
It is then all about the schemes that make it a must watch. The hectic pace of the corporate world, trying to predict the next move, keeps you glued. After 12-13th episode, Gun-woo seems to have ambition & we feel he has changed, he changs a few things but ultimately our heroine is supreme. She is cool in every situation. She is a step ahead, when she falters she is capable of finding a way out. Executing plan A & always having plan B ready.
Hats off to the writers who made it possible. A good story, excellent dialogues, nice execution, able actors make it a must watch. We know it is the last episode & yet we keep on expecting, there lies its success.
In ‘Corporate’ Madhur Bhandarkar had tried to break the image & presented Bipasha Basu as a hard working corporate. That film had two rival companies fighting it out & they destroy her personal & professional life. It is a 2006 film. Very rarely we find such themes but if the story is good it goes well with the audience. Without the song & dance routine it stands out.
