I had translated the first poem in std 7, “Gudiya meri rani hai…lagti badi sayani hai…”…..Gudiya mazi rani, ahe kitti sahani….& found a great joy that I hadn’t known existed. Then came a stage when I could write, really write on my own,my own thoughts.”Dhuraat disti prakashache kiran….I was watching smoke coming out of a chimney from the vulcanization of rubber. From our gallery we could see only the roofs of the small shacks( gale) that had varied businesses.
Gore gore gal hai ,kale kale bal hai…Aankhen neeli neeli hai sadi peeli peeli hai ..pada gale mein haar hai, mujhe usse pyar hai!……Gore gal,ani kale bal…..Dole neele ani sadi pivli…Found that Marathi & Hindi are so close!!!…Tichya galyat haar ani maze ahe tichya var pyaar.Mukta chanda kavita is what is my forte!!! Much later came Haiku with limited verses.I recited a few on Jalgaon Akashwani also.(I had to take Durga along so my parents accompanied me to Bhusawal. From there we went to Jalgaon. When I had to read a story ,”Kondi” in SP College,Durga was on stage holding my hand ,she couldn’t be left behind, not even in the wings. On selection as an exchange to a foreign land I had been asked to leave her behind which I couldn’t.Not for an entire year! I had also made up my mind to live in a hostel with her to complete my PhD in Bangalore,ISC campus. )
The twin theaters …Circle & Vikas …my memories are full of them. Laxmibai knew everyone,so tickets was never a problem.Laxmibai? the night shift maid who had all the problems in the world & yet never lost hope or her smile.”Sudhanshu”…a house that has all my growing up pangs, passion & perfect relationships. For the first we shifted in our own house from Gole colony, leaving behind friends, memories & a childhood. It was just across the street & yet things are never the same. Along with the change in the postal address a lot changes.
Mangesh Padgaonkar,I met when he stayed in Hotel Greenview & my mama made it a point to introduce me.Of course he must be meeting so many of his fans.I did not repeat the mistake & never met Sudhir Moghe, who is one of the best poets in Marathi.”Kavita pano pani…”was his popular programme that I attended in Tilak Smarak,Pune.I read an article in “Sakal” & decided to attend the event.Taking a bus from Nagar I reached Prakash mama’s place in Kothrud. He sent Medha mami with me,Good…. I didn’t know the location. But then all rickshaw-walas know!
“Pakshanche thase”..I had read his verses before. Thanks to Vrunda,my senior from Nasik, I could go to Nagar to complete my post graduation, also the job as I had no idea about what I need to do after my education is complete!…is it complete? We learn so many things daily. Nagar gave me what I never had before the decision making, confidence & the freedom to do what I liked.Simple words, simple concepts that was his speciality..Sajjat ubhi ti sukvit kes ole, vedya musafirane tyachech geet kele..( In a film,Papa kehte hai, Jugal Hansraj has a song…Ghar se nikalte hi kuch door chalte hi, raste mein hai uska ghar….bal banati woh khidki mein aayi nazar..the poetry in this “Balo ka banana” is lost. You don’t even comb, brush the hair & are off! )
HOD had also asked me to stay in Nagar & help with his UGC project but Nasik was beckoning & going home was the dream then.Did I lose a chance? I am not sure. But then there are opportunities around the corner.”Aayushat anek valna yetat pan apan kiti valayche he jyache tyane tharvayche aste..” I had recited these lines in the CKP Hall in Andheri, I loved my job so this was just a hobby.
“PHite andharache jale jhale mokale aakash….” or his song from “Wazir” ….’ Sanj ye Gokuli savli savli…savlaychi janu sauli…’ picturised on Ashwini Bhave. Most of the songs are sung By Sudhir Phadke or Shridhar Phadke.Recently I had come back from Vipassana & there was a programme by Shridhar phadke in PS Natya Mandir.I didn’t wish to miss it but it was just the next day.I sat with my eyes closed & cross legged on the chair to hear Sudhir Moghe again.’Tuzya mazya sansarala ani kay have?’ Heavenly….He also added …”Dilya ghetlya vachananchi shapath tula ahe…”by Arun Date…wondering are the verses better or the voice? Finally I decided the voice makes the verses to stand out….Vachan dile tu mala….
Now I try & find poetry in & around us, than making anything new.Wishing more verses & happiness. So happy reading!
