I had watched a talk given by Anupam kher & loved the concept.Lets try to explore it further…the love shown in films,how true & how filmy?…A song sequence in ,’Achut Kanya ‘ was singing along with the beloved swinging from a swing.’Mein ban ki chidiya bolu re…it was for our benefit & no denials or kasams. Life was simple.
An age when in ,’Kora Kagaz’ Jaya says…Padhne mein nahi lage dil,…koi yeh toh bahay mujhe woh toh nahi ho gaya…was very different from ,Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Raju ban gaya gentleman’….Nana Patekar says…isko loveriya hua….Times when the word was not uttered to diagnosing the condition.
Mein wohi darpan wohi,na jane ye kya ho gaya ke sab kuch lage naya naya….she is alone peering into the mirror & trying to solve the riddle. Sometimes a friend helped, like Farida Jalal in “Khushboo” singing along the banks ,fetching water & having a real talk.”Bechara dil kya kare….”The Sujit Kumar-Rajesh Khanna duo in a jeep & Sujit Kumar nudging Rajesh Khanna in “Aradhana” in the opening song,Mere sapno ki rani kab aayegi tu…
Then came a time when a group was needed, “Khambe jaisi khadi hai ladki hai phool jhadi hai, …..” A sentiment as subtle as love had to have so many people to say it across.More the merrier became a norm. It became a necessary song & dance sequence where the choreography was a must.”Tu cheez badi hai mast mast..” never mind if the girl is equated to an article.
From the olden times when in ,’Pakeeza’ ..Aap ye pav jamin par na rahiye, maile ho jayenge…Meena Kumari gets the chit in the morning,she has never met the writer.Whenever there is the train” seeti” she looks up to see…what she doesn’t even know what he looks like…being bredon such kind of films it was very difficult to adjust to,”Khullam khulla pyar karenge hum dono,is duniya se nahi darenge hum dono..” the lovable pair of Rishi Kapoor & Neetu Singh couldn’t make up for the lost melody.
“Hum dono” had that memorable song…Abhi na jao chhod kar ,yeh dil abhi bhara nahi…such songs make you more nostalgic . Aaj jaane ki zid na karo….or the newer, ‘Mai se meena se na saki se…dil behalta hai mera aapke aa jane se..with Govinda & Neelam handled so well.Both are good dancers,but hats off to the director who did not bring in an entire team to showcase their skills.
“Chand Sa roshan chehra, …tarif karu kya uski jisne tumhe banaya..’ Shammi Kapoor – Sharmila tagore in Kashmir ki Kali,he is is in awe but wants to praise the almighty ‘cos He is the Creator. Have we forgotten to be thankful? Do we believe that we are actually the creator of our destiny? With the advancements(?) there are things that we have lost forever. Haven’t we come to “Saturday,saturday…yes tune is good ,beat is nice but is the song relevant? A good movie did not require such a stunt.
Khush rahe tu sada yeh dua hai meri….a tery dad or a unhappy lover never thought ill of his beloved but times have changed & acid attack, burning,hurting is not so uncommon.”Saraswatichandra ” a Bengali novel written ages ago had a message applicable even today. it has ,”Chandan Sa badan ,chanchal chitvan…” when he falls in love but doesn’t get married. He goes to see how she is doing at her in laws where she sings…Mein toh bhool chali babul ka desh,piya ka ghar pyaara lage….for his benefit so he must get over her now. Later she loses her husband & refuses to marry him ,advicing …Chod de sari duniya kisi ke liye,ye munasib nahi aadmi ke liye….To rise above & beyond. The ideals may look lofty but unless you try how will we achieve heights??
Zindagi ke safar mein guzar jate hai jo makam ,woh phir nahi aate…we get only one chance so go after it,we are here to watch good things …so go for it! Happy viewing!
