My Holo Love

A 2020 romance drama that got overshadowed due to ‘Crash landing on you”,but still found its place because we always go for sci fi dramas.A lonely woman with face blindness finds the perfect companion on getting to know a human-like hologram modelled after its genius creator.Basically the story is about the creator finding his admirer.

Yoon Hyun min & Ko Sung he play the lead. His sister,Choi Yeo jin & Hwang Chan sung complement them without being overbearing.Ko sung manages to look like an ordinary office goer, amazed at small surprises. When she comes across the hologram, she is startled & thinks it is a ghost.Tries to ward off the spirit, puts on her glasses & finds he is still there.Yoon Hyun min is cute as Holo & too rude as himself.Gradually he gets into the groove.Sudden light break down all over ,showing both of them,Holo & his creator,at one place is done so well.

Next when he meets her as himself on the playground showed his hesitation & trying to take care at the same was endearing. The Korean drama needs to get out of the childhood trauma! Here too they know each other from childhood & her face blindness, his hatred for his mother stem from the same event that occured in their childhood. Can’t perfect strangers meeting as adults fall in love or even fall out? Not necessary that everyone has a story.I mean the stories can be very different & are unrelated. The same man being the villain then & also today was just too much.

Surprisingly the sister manages to get married but our lead are yet to come to any commitment. In the photograph,Holo appears behind our lead pair.So again there is a possibility of a sequel. The scenes with Holo are more cute, nicely done & hilarious. Her mother is played by Lee Jeong eun,who is a very good actress. She looks very tired & older in ‘When Camellia blooms…’where she is a single mother & brings out the despair so well.In the ‘Weightlifting fairy…’ she is Nam Joo-hyuk’s mother. There she is fresh & supportive of her son. In ‘My holo love ‘ she is younger & fresher,a typical mother to Ko sung.

A hologram was first shown in the ‘Star wars ‘in 1977 by George Lucas. It was a beautiful fantasy where there was a robot & a princess ,an ordinary guy & of course the universe.I remember the titles moving away into the sky like a milky way.Right from the titles we moved to the stars, galaxy & the constellations. It was dream in cinema scope.Today the techniques are much more refined.A tele drama can afford to show such a technique is in itself an achievement.Without getting down by the tricks the humane side is evident& that is winning!

Sci fi books by Carl Sagan were always very informative. His ‘descent of man’ was very popular.Issac Asimov opened the entire universe to the readers. His ‘I,Robot’ written in 1950 is a testimony of what a writer can achieve. His foundation series was a great hit.His concepts of Gia & other world made the reader fall for his way of thinking.I,Robot was made into a film in 2004 gives how far a writer can visualise. A person born in 1920, died in 1992 could write novels which find relevance even today goes to show his excellence. His formal education was in biochemistry, but that didn’t deter him from writing what he liked.Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry gave him screen credit as “special science consultant” on Star Trek: the motion picture… for his advice.

The more you dwell on ,the more interesting it gets.Interacting with AI is not a simple thing. It has ramifications in every field.Do they display emotions,or have thoughts of their own are some of the questions to be addressed. The answers are not so simple & to found easily.Movies like …Blade runner,Ex Machina ,Wall E ….make compulsive watching & that feeling of uneasiness remains. Machines taking over is something rarely seen in Bollywood but still Robot,Ra-1 have that power to make us think & think over again.

All is not lost yet.The human brain remains the supreme & manages to rise above all The question remains for how long? Interesting! Right? So long.
