Also called as the Bride of the water god.A 2017 show, after his best actor win for Kim bok joo, also was well received by the audience.It is a spin off of the sunjung manhwa by yoon mi-kyung.Here Lee Se-kyung is in title role with Nam.The water god comes to earth in search of a powerful stone.Here he meets with a psychiatrist who thinks he is delusional.He has no money,no house & unaware of the worldly ways.
Lee Se -kyung has later worked in the Black knight which again deals with magic & lost era.But I happened to see it first.She is an excellent actress & carry off any kind of role.She is good in Rookie historian where she leads Prince Rim ,none other than Cha Eun in a confused state of mind.Both the stories have an elaborate past.So does The Bride- but here there are two others she is to deal with. Nam wants to search the stone & leave as soon as possible.Easier said than done.
Gong Myung & Krystal Jung have preceded him in this world.Krystal has even established herself as a model & earns a heap.Gong knows he can’t beat Haebek & resents him.Lim ju hwan is the demigod & has a hotel business.He is powerful & doesn’t know how to use his power.His rage can wilt flowers.He is tending a garden & helping a small blind girl,who has been blinded by him due to his misplaced power.
Being a water god Nam loves to soak in a tub for hours & lase around generally.When he watches Shin doing all work alone he volunteers to clean & dust.He later asks her to look after the house & clean it periodically.In a scene he is shown swimming with Shin,also saves a man from drowning.Once she had tried to kill herself by drowning so she is scared of water.None the less she falls for the water god.Once she accepts that he is really god as he claims,she doesn’t know what to do.A patient tries to push her over , he does from a tall building but Nam catches her timely & saves her.That rush of water & her bewildered expression here is awesome. This instance makes her believe him,till then she thinks he is another patient material.
Her struggle to keep her clinic,her humorous assistant,her past where she had to live frugally,her past boyfriends one of them Gong himself,none to write about all bad choices.But she comes across a warm,caring & honest individual.She is not very ambitious.She wants to meet her father only once.Why he abandoned her suddenly a few years ago is still beyond her.That’s the reason she wished to die that day but got saved.
She does wish to detain Nam instead decides to enjoy every day as long as he ‘s here.This change is shown so well in her attitude,in her walk ,the sparkle in her eye,Nam is surprised with us. no crying,no tears,no remorse.These small moments make the drama a fulfilling experience.No magic that he finds the stone & has been summoned.He is delaying his departure.Krystal wants him to leave immediately.But doesn’t realise he’s too into his beloved.What is a surprise are the moments together handled so well. He is waiting near the wall,with a creeper hiding his face partially.As she returns he asks her to come before night fall,both of them start walking towards her house.He is living in a part of her house with his male servant,but distances are maintained & small tasks divided.
The priest comes to take him away,asks him to meet at a spot where all of them gather.He calmly extends his deadline.There is no verbal match,shouting,hitting absolutely no violence & still there is result. Amazing.I had half wished that the solution will present itself but this was the best.Both of them looking at each other stunned & that’s it.I enjoyed watching this pair.Hope to see them again in future.Happy viewing!
