Another Chinese drama that tells us about an ordinary girl who falls head over heels for the most popular & scholar boy in school.From middle school, university & then choosing their professions we follow their entire journey.The Thai original story is – Crazy little thing called love in 2010.It is very brief.Nam is an ordinary girl.She has specs so her face is half covered.She has braces.Her adoration for Shone is evident, but what does he feel? When she musters up her courage he tells her he has a girlfriend.Years later when she becomes a renowned designer she is interviewed on tv.The interviewer asks her if she ‘s married,to which she says no.Shone steps on stage & the interviewer asks her if this is the reason.She is stunned & stands up.Curtains.Her transformation is phenomenal as compared to Angel Zhao who looks good anyway. But the greatest achievement is making you see all the episodes till the end.
There are two lead pairs so both develop side by side.Edward Lai is a phenomenon today. At the age of 17 he is worth millions.His eyes,voice & the way he utters her name is all too sweet.( his dancing moves are available on you tube) Whats remarkable is that the way he acts in the show you won’t believe he’s the same person.His controlled acting is his asset.His anger when her classmate is trying for her attention he taps his pencil where only Angel knows he disapproves.Small things that make up a good viewing.
Angel is barely 16. So the scenes are designed in a way to capture their innocence & without getting too cosy it would appear too cliche.The other pair- Wang Run Ze who is Angel’s classmate( Edward is a year senior, actually she always calls him ‘senior’- so cute )has a thing for her & Edward’s cousin sister Chai Wai is Wang’s childhood friend. Chai makes him fall for her with her persuasion,their sequences are cute. He cares for her but doesn’t want to admit it.
Edward is a star student.He helps Angel all the way. In University both get a chance to study abroad on scholarship, when he gets a chance to complete a project which his mother had left unfinished.So he decides to stay back.When you are close enough to your girlfriend can’t you share your dream? He doesn’t go to the airport & she knows that she has to go alone.I found this part very irritating.You want a break up do it nicely.Why the secrecy??
She comes back & then there is patch up.The reason why he could not accompany her should have been more solid.Even later every thing has a nice flow except this hitch.From the titles the show is worth seeing.OST is soft & pleasing to the ears.Right from the first frame we know how much she is in awe but his feelings gradually come to the fore.
Both their families go for a family photograph.The photographer asks which is the groom,Angel is playing with the veil then & both the boys are wearing black suits.(Edward’s father has married Wang’s mother so they are now brothers which Wang hasn’t really accepted) The sub-plots have been written really well.It is a lovely experience.
