The opening scene shows a girl undergoing cosmetic surgery. Her mother is waiting outside.She has saved & paid for the surgery without the father knowing about it. He is happy about his child’s looks.He is shown to be an ordinary person driving taxi for his family.She is their only child & her father’s princess. She has been bullied in school because of her looks.
Im so hyang has played the role to the hilt.She had been apprehensive about it for long but finally said yes.She has been applauded for the same.Cha Eun woo plays opposite her. He is every girl’s dream.I feel he does act well but his handsomeness is a hindrance.I saw him first in prince’s attire that when I saw Park bo Gum in “Love in Moonlight” I missed Eun woo! (at the end of the show I had got used to Bo gum’s smile & his sweet co-star!)I had seen Eun woo in”Sweet Revenge” also & thought over his sudden exit then.
When Eun woo asks her to show her photo from before the surgery we are equally shocked.He used to like her then & it never was looks but because it was “you”. for what you are. Gangnam beauty is referred to those who have made suitable changes to their faces–surgery for the double eyelid or such. The duo of mother & daughter are unaware thing because they have been thinking of Gangnam as an affluent area.
Both of them wear masks because Im soo wants to date in secret. She feels girls will tease her again & others will wonder how she managed to date such a handsome boyfriend.Eun woo agrees to everything she says.But when they reach the campus she realises that both are looking odd due to the masks.She asks him to remove the mask & holds his hand while entering college. Given that we can’t change what we are given but accepting the good in us is more satisfying. Eun woo doesn’t correct her instead gives her time which I found was refreshing. The drama gives a message with being preachy, a very rare thing to come across.
There is Kwak Dong yeon in a tiny role who falls for Im.He is watching her without being overbearing.Very soon he knows that he is going to lose to Eun woo. But he remains a good friend to both of them.Another girl suddenly proposes to him. He is surprised but gently & firmly refuses.I saw him with Bo gum in “Love in Moonlight”. He is the close friend & palace guard with Bo gum.His hairstyle was unique.In a clip I had seen him wounded & Bo gum in tears, I feared if he was to be sacrificed for the prince. But thankfully that doesn’t happen & he sees the lead pair walking towards the sunset.His recent show “Never Twice” is not available on Netflix.But clips can be seen on you tube,how I wish I could follow what’s going on without Eng subs!
After Kim Jae wook this is another actor who can carry a show on his shoulders alone.With “Never twice ” I hope he loses his second lead title.His voice & presence on screen makes my day! Happy viewing….
